ARTIST BIO
TOVI (pronounced toe-vee) is the electro-pop project of Alberta/Toronto-based artist Rebecca Emms. Described as “noirish, melancholic pop music powered by big hip-hop drums” (Ian Steaman, CBC Music), TOVI evokes the sombre feeling one might get listening to Lana Del Rey mixed with rumbling downtempo influences of Gorillaz and Portishead.
TOVI’s debut EP Midnight Hum was recorded in Toronto with engineer/producer Mike Rocha (Electric Youth, Greys, Black Pistol Fire). Released April 27, 2018, the EP debuted at number 4 on the !earshot National Electronic radio charts and helped TOVI earn a 2018 Western Canadian Music Award nomination for “Electronic/Dance Artist of the Year”.
TOVI’s past projects include alt-rock duo Girl Meets Bear, and production contributions on Victoria-based artist JAYA’s soon to be released album. She recently attended the prestigious Singer-Songwriter Residency at Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity.
In November 2019, TOVI headed back into the studio to work on new music with Toronto producer Josh Korody (Weaves, The Dirty Nil, Dilly Dally).
